Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number! * (1966, Bob Hope, Elke Sommer, Phyllis Diller) – Classic Movie Review 10,349

Director George Marshall’s 1966 comedy Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number! stars Bob Hope, who struggles with a hopeless script about a motor-mouthed small-town estate agent, Tom Meade, who Gets a Wrong Number and becomes mixed up with a seductive visiting sex-bomb movie star Didi (Elke Sommer).

She is fleeing from her film-director bloke, Pepe Pepponi (Cesare Danova). The farce picks up as Hope has to keep Teutonic temptress Sommer away from his jealous wife Martha (Marjorie Lord). Phyllis Diller provides some truly funny moments as the maid, Lily, but the naff, unfunny dialogue mostly defeats even the great funny man Hope. Oh boy!

Also in the cast are Benny Baker, Kelly Thordsen, Terry Burnham, Joyce Jameson, Harry von Zell, Kevin Burchett, Keith Taylor and John Todd Roberts.

Phyllis Diller: 1917-2012.

Elke Sommer was born on in Berlin, Germany. She was paid £30,000 for Carry on Behind (1975), the highest ever Carry On salary along with Phil Silvers. Essential series star Kenneth Williams only got a sixth of her pay, £5,000.
