Director Sergio Corbucci’s 1976 Italian comedy crime thriller High Rollers [Bluff storia di truffe e di imbroglioni] stars Anthony Quinn as con artist Philip Bang, who gets out of prison with young trickster Felice ‘Félix’ Brianza (Adriano Celentano) in a con job jail break and the two link up to pit their wits against clever villainess Belle Duke (Capucine), who is seeking revenge on her former lover Philip Bang.

Once out, Bang and Brianza set out to swindle Belle so that Bang can get his revenge on her, but then Brianza falls in love with Bang’s daughter.

High Rollers [Bluff storia di truffe e di imbroglioni] is an ordinary but still enjoyable Italian caper thriller in The Sting manner, directed by Spaghetti Westerns man Corbucci, who can’t manage quite enough larky style but keeps it light hearted and amusing anyway.

The star trio are on entertaining form, along with Corinne Cléry as Charlotte.

It is also known as The Con Artists.

Bluff storia di truffe e di imbroglioni translates as Bluff history of scams and cheaters.

It was released in Italy on 15 April 1976 and in the UK in September 1978, with its UK video premiere in 1986 as The Con Artists.

Also in the cast are Attilio Dottesio, Renzo Marignano, Fortunato Arena, Rocco Lerro, Enrico Palombini, Virgilio Ponti, Saviana Scalfi, and Renzo Ozzano.

Adriano Celentano is one of the most important Italian pop music singers and had a successful career in comic movies. He is married to singer/ actress Claudia Mori. She won the Festival di San Remo in 1970 with her song ‘Chi non lavora non fa l’amore’. Her song ‘Non succederà più’ (It won’t happen again) made number one in the Italian charts in 1982.
