Bang! You’re Dead [Game of Danger] *** (1954, Jack Warner, Derek Farr, Anthony Richmond, Seán Barrett, Michael Medwin, Gordon Harker) – Classic Movie Review 13,780

The suspenseful 1954 British black and white second feature psychological drama film Bang! You’re Dead [Game of Danger] stars Jack Warner, Derek Farr, Anthony Richmond, Seán Barrett, and Michael Medwin.

Producer/ director Lance Comfort’s suspenseful 1954 British black and white second feature psychological drama film Bang! You’re Dead [Game of Danger] stars Jack Warner, Derek Farr, Anthony Richmond, Seán Barrett, Michael Medwin, Gordon Harker, Philip Savile, Veronica Hurst, and Beatrice Varley. It is written by Guy Elmes and Ernest Borneman.

A rural England seven-year old street kid called Cliff (Anthony Richmond) with a passion for playing with toy guns (‘Bang! You’re Dead’) in mock shoot-outs with his slightly older chum Willy (Seán Barrett), finds a real loaded old army service revolver left behind at the decommissioned American army munitions stores depot where he lives, and shoots dead unpopular local crook Ben Jones (Philip Savile) by mistake. But police superintendent Detective Gray (Derek Farr) arrests someone else instead – the man who finds the body and pockets the gun, Bob Carter (Michael Medwin), the best buddy of Cliff’s widowed father, Bonsell (Jack Warner).

Bang! You’re Dead is a sensitive, involving, rather disturbing little story, the British version of The Window, neatly handled and sweetly performed, with three very strong star portrayals, including young Richmond’s, and several excellent support turns.

Cast: Jack Warner, Derek Farr, Anthony Richmond, Michael Medwin, Gordon Harker, Philip Savile, Veronica Hurst, Beatrice Varley, Seán Barrett, John Warwick, Toke Townley, Fred Griffiths, Larry Burns, Arnold Bell, Lee Phillips.

The film was shot at Shepperton Studios and released on 16 March 1954 by British Lion Films.

Game of Danger is the US title.

British actor Seán Barrett was born on 4 May 1940.

Child actor Anthony Richmond is known for Devil Girl from Mars (1954), One Wish Too Many (1956) and Game of Danger (1954). After the mid‑1950s, he stepped away from the screen, and little public information exists about his later life.
