Addams Family Reunion ** (1998, Daryl Hannah, Tim Curry, Patrick Thomas) – Classic Movie Review 1604

1

The Addams Family just isn’t the same when it’s a different family. Director David Payne’s 1998 second sequel to the 1991 hit The Addams Family is a mediocre, if watchable made-for-video black comedy based on the 60s TV show. It gets a lift with pleasant performances – though less than ideal casting – in Daryl Hannah (Morticia Addams), Tim Curry (Gomez) and Patrick Thomas (Uncle Fester).

The plot’s hardly important, but the movie is let down by the feeble story about the family setting off to find some long-lost relations on an Addams Family Reunion. However, Hannah and Curry are good sports, and there are quite a few laughs along the way, though. Carel Struycken’s Lurch and Christopher Hart’s Thing are the only ones in all three films.

Original stars Christopher Lloyd and Anjelica Huston both turned down the offers to reprise the roles of Uncle Fester and Morticia. John Astin (the original TV Gomez) was offered the role of Grandpa Addams but he turned down and the 84-year-old Kevin McCarthy played it.
