The 1994 American skydiving action thriller film Drop Zone stars Wesley Snipes as a US Marshal who takes to the skies to bust a drug smuggling gang.

Director John Badham’s 1994 American skydiving action thriller Drop Zone stars Wesley Snipes, Gary Busey, Yancy Butler, and Michael Jeter. This slick, smart, tough, action-packed thriller delivers the goods, and so do the charismatic Wesley Snipes and Gary Busey.
Two US Marshal brothers Pete and Terry Nessip (Wesley Snipes, Malcolm Jamal-Warner) must guard computer expert Earl Leedy (Michael Jeter), a key witness they are escorting to a high-security prison, but then their client is snatched in a mid-air kidnap bid. The mastermind behind the attack is former DEA agent and renegade skydiver Ty Moncrief (Gary Busey), who plans to use Leedy to hack into the DEA mainframe computer in Washington DC to auction the names of undercover agents to drug cartels worldwide. Then US Marshal Pete Nessip (Snipes) must learn how to sky dive to prove that the botched hijacking of a jumbo jet was really a successful bid to spring the prisoner he was escorting.
Drop Zone was released by Paramount Pictures in the US on 9 December 1994.
The British 15 cert is a cut version.
The score is by Hans Zimmer, who recalls: ‘Drop Zone was written just for fun. I come from rock n roll but I grew up with classical music. In Drop Zone, I could do both. With some scores, you come away with a lot of scars. In Drop Zone, there weren’t any. It was just a blast.’
The story idea came from professional skydivers Tony Griffin and Guy Manos. Screenwriter Peter Barsocchini later wrote High School Musical (2006). Michael Jeter actually performed the tandem skydiving jump.
Curiously, there was another skydiving action film that year: Terminal Velocity.
