Part-Time Wife * (1961, Anton Rodgers, Kenneth J Warren and Nyree Dawn Porter) – Classic Movie Review 13,592

The Danzigers’ 1961 British comedy film Part-Time Wife stars Anton Rodgers as struggling insurance salesman Tom and Nyree Dawn Porter as married Jenny who agrees to pose as Tom’s wife.

Director Max Varnel’s 1961 black and white second feature film Part-Time Wife is produced by the Danzigers and stars Anton Rodgers, Kenneth J Warren and Nyree Dawn Porter, along with Henry McCarthy, Mark Singleton, Susan Richards, Raymond Rollett, and June Cunningham.

Part-Time Wife is a silly, contrived British comedy in which struggling insurance salesman Tom (Anton Rodgers), a footloose bachelor, gives his scallywag buddy Drew (Kenneth J Warren) the part-time use of his wife Jenny (Nyree Dawn Porter) to impress his visiting wealthy uncle, who has told him he will only inherit his business when he is respectably married. Jenny kindly agrees to pose as Tom’s wife.

The plot supposedly thickens when a detective (Mark Singleton) reveals that Drew (Warren) is a criminal.

The lumbering script by Mark Grantham [aka H M McCormack], lumbered with such an unimpressive premise, just doesn’t give the talented and personable players a chance, and the handling of the farce is slack and blunt.

The cast are Anton Rodgers, Kenneth J Warren, Nyree Dawn Porter, Henry McCarthy, Mark Singleton, Neil Hallett, Susan Richards, Raymond Rollett, June Cunningham, Dudy Nimmo , Anna Gerber, Jan Conrad, Alan Browning, Max Butterfield, George Roderick, and Michael Peake.

Part-Time Wife is directed by Max Varnel, runs 70 minutes, is made by Danziger Productions, is released by British Lion Film Corporation (UK), is written by Mark Grantham [H M McCormack], is shot in black and white by Walter J Harvey [Jimmy Harvey], and is produced by Edward J Danziger, Harry Lee Danziger and Brian Taylor (production supervisor).

Release date: December 1961 (UK).
