Valley of the Zombies ** (1946, Robert Livingston, Lorna Gray, Ian Keith, Thomas E Jackson, Charles Trowbridge) – Classic Movie Review 9599

‘BLOOD MADNESS… Out Of The Fog… Into Your Heart!’

Don’t look for a valley or zombies or thrills in director Philip Ford’s amusingly laughable 1946 Republic Pictures quickie horror chiller Valley of the Zombies about blood sucking mad undertaker-doctor Ormand Murks (Ian Keith) returning from the dead to steal blood so that he can continue stalking the streets and avenge himself on the scum who put him away in a mental home.

On the one hand Valley of the Zombies is complete pathetic tosh, done without any style or wit, though on the other hand it manages to be entertaining and endearing, and of course naturally it may be funny to scoff at.

Robert Livingston also stars as Dr ‘Terry’ Evans, Lorna Gray [Adrian Booth] as his nurse Susan Drake and Charles Trowbridge as Dr Rufus Maynard.

Also in the cast are Thomas E Jackson, LeRoy Mason, Earle Hodgins, William Haade, Wilton Graff, Charles Cane, Russ Clark, Wheaton Chambers, and Chuck Hamilton [Charles Hamilton].

Valley of the Zombies is directed by Philip Ford, runs 56 minutes, is made by Republic Pictures, is released by Republic Pictures (1946) (US) and British Lion Film Corporation (1946) (UK), is written by Dorrell McGowan and Stuart McGowan, based on an original story by Royal K Cole and Sherman L Lowe, is shot in black and white by Reggie Lanning [Reginald Lanning], is produced by Dorrell McGowan and Stuart E McGowan, is scored by Edward H Plumb and Richard Cherwin (musical director) and is designed by Hilyard M Brown.

It was shot at Republic Studios, Hollywood, Los Angeles.
