Director Robert Zemeckis’s coarse but funny 1980 cynical black comedy Used Cars stars Kurt Russell and Jack Warden as rival used-car dealers who leave nothing to chance when attracting customers.

The two stars, plus Gerrit Graham and Frank McRae as Russell’s fellow plotters, are excellent in this overlooked movie with a high laugh count.

You might not buy a used car from these two dodgy dealers, but the film goes like a bomb, with pacy and punchy writing and handling by Zemeckis.

Zemeckis writes the screenplay with Bob Gale.

Also in the cast are Deborah Harmon, Joseph P Flaherty, David L Lander, Michael McKean, Andrew Duncan, Wendie Jo Sperber, Michael Talbot, Harry Northrup, Alphonso Arau, Al Lewis, Woodrow Parfrey, Andrew Duncan, Dub Taylor, Claude Earl Jones, Dan Barrows, Cheryl Rixon, Marc McClure, Susan Donovan, Don Ruskin and Jan Sandwich.
