The Restless Breed *** (1957, Scott Brady, Anne Bancroft, Jay C Flippen, Jim Davis, Rhys Williams, Scott Marlowe, Leo Gordon) – Classic Movie Review 11,717

Director Allan Dwan’s 1957 Eastmancolor Western film The Restless Breed stars Scott Brady as the avenging hero, lawyer Mitch Baker, who rides into town with a mission – to find the killers of his father and mete out the only justice they will understand.

Jim Davis is a useful villain as Ed Newton, the leader of the murderous gang of gunrunners, and the young Anne Bancroft is appealing as Angelita, the half-Native American woman restless for Brady.

Director Dwan turns in a tense, solid Western, lifting it well above the level of its routine plot.

The Restless Breed is directed by Allan Dwan, runs 86 minutes, is made and released by 20th Century Fox, is written by Steve Fisher, is shot in Eastmancolor by John W Boyle, produced by Edward L Alperson, Richard Einfeld, Ace Herman and Charles B Fitzsimons, and scored by Edward L Alperson Jnr and Raoul Kraushaar (conductor), with Art Direction by Ernst Fegté.

The cast are Scott Brady, Anne Bancroft, Jay C Flippen, Jim Davis, Rhys Williams, Scott Marlowe, Leo Gordon, Eddy Waller, Harry Cheshire, Myron Healey, Gerald Milton, and Dennis King Jr as Hotel Clerk, James Flavin as Secret Service Chief, Clegg Hoyt as Spud, and Marilyn Winston as Banee.
