Rhonda Fleming is top-billed for director Sidney Salkow and producer Sam Katzman’s Technicolor historical action adventure The Golden Hawk (1952) with Sterling Hayden, Helena Carter and John Sutton. The Golden Hawk is scripted by Robert E Kent, based on a book by Frank Yerby.
Rugged French privateer pirate Kit ‘The Hawk’ Gerardo (Hayden) vows to destroy the wicked governor of Cartegena, Captain Luis del Toro (John Sutton), who was responsible for his mother’s death, in a fast-moving, amusing version of Frank Yerby’s book.
Sutton has now imprisoned Captain Rouge (Fleming), the flame-haired piratess, who is really a woman of substance just out to right the wrongs done to her. So now Hayden finds he has twin tasks on his hands, but can kill the two birds with one stone.
Hayden swashes a neat buckle in this simple but pleasing production, with a nice cast, lovely colour and no serious issues to get in the way of the jovial adventure romp.
Also in the cast are Paul Cavanagh, Raymond Hatton, Michael Ansara, Alex Montoya, Albert Pollet and David Bond.
