The Eye [Gin gwai] *** (2002, Angelica Lee, Chutcha Rujinanon, Lawrence Chou) – Classic Movie Review 5463

A young blind woman (Lee Sin-Je, aka Anjelica Lee) undergoes cornea-transplant surgery, giving her back the gift of sight. But the operation leaves her terrorised by increasingly scary visions. Now she must find the cornea’s original owner to find out if there is more to her operation than meets the eye.

This spooky, imaginative 2002 Asian chiller is made with considerable flair and plenty of crisp style by the Pang Brothers, Danny Pang and Oxide Chun Pang. They pack their film with tension, creepy atmosphere and some provocative ideas to reflect on. The Pang Brothers also write the screenplay with Yuet-Jan Hui (aka Jojo Hui).
