Sandokan Against the Leopard of Sarawak [Return of Sandokan] ** (1964, Ray Danton, Franca Bettoia, Guy Madison, Mario Petri) – Classic Movie Review 7968

This time Ray Danton is again the heroic Sandokan, the sultan’s son who battles along with his buddy Yanez (Guy Madison), in director Luigi Capuano’s fervent, exotic and often exciting 1964 adventure spectacle from Italy, Sandokan contro il leopardo di Sarawak [Sandokan Against the Leopard of Sarawak] [Return of Sandokan].

Based on novels by Emilio Salgari, it is the sequel to Sandokan alla Riscossa [Sandokan Fights Back] and its rough edges are redeemed by plenty of action and well-crafted direction, as well as by Bitto Albertini’s cinematography and another fine score by Carlo Rustichelli.

It also stars Guy Madison as Yanez, Franca Bettoia as Samoa and Mario Petri as Sir Charles Brooks.

Samoa (Franca Bettoia) is kidnapped and held hypnotised in a cave by her cousin Sir Charles Brooks (Mario Petri), whose father has been murdered by the lord of Malaya Sandokan, who sets out to rescue her, aided by his European buddy Yanez and Tremal Naik (Alberto Farnese). Samoa becomes Sandokan’s fiancée.

It is written by Luigi Capuano and Arpad DeRiso, based on novels by Emilio Salgari.
