Director David DeCoteau’s 2003 horror film Leeches! stars Matthew Twining, Josh Henderson, Stacey Nelson, Alexandra Westmore, Mark Ian Miller, Mike Cole, Trevor Harris and Michael Lutz.

Student swimmers’ steroid-pumped-up blood turns leeches into monsters in this dreadful farrago of a chiller, with rotten acting, a dire script and terrible effects. Leeches! is cheerfully cheap and short (85 minutes), but that’s about all it has in its favour, though it could be considered so bad it’s good by the charitably minded.

The surviving team members and one of their girlfriends hatch a plan to kill off the monster leeches by drawing them into the campus swimming pool and electrifying it.

Also in the cast are Stacey Nelson as Casey, Julie Briggs as Dr Alice Manning, Tony Carroccio as the team coach Foster, Josh Henderson as Jason, Maya Parish as Angela, Charity Rahmer as Sabrina, Stephen Swan as Tony and Alexandra Westmore as Sarah.

Leeches! is written by Michael Gingold, based on a story by David DeCoteau and Gary Barkin.

It was shot fast over six 12-hour days in Malibu.

It is the kind of film where the wires dragging the leeches across the floor can be clearly seen in several shots.
