Go Now *** (1995, Robert Carlyle, Juliet Aubrey, James Nesbitt) – Classic Movie Review 9904

Director Michael Winterbottom’s 1995 character and issue driven drama Go Now is dour and downbeat but appealing and very conscientiously written and most credibly performed.

Robert Carlyle stars as young Scots builder and footie player Nick Cameron, who falls for Karen (Juliet Aubrey) but then finds that he is suffering from multiple sclerosis.

It is a typically depressing quality work from director Winterbottom. The writers are Jimmy McGovern and Paul Henry Powell.

Go Now (written by Larry Banks and Milton Bennett) is sung by the Moody Blues and by Bessie Banks.

Also in the cast are Juliet Aubrey, James Nesbitt, Sophie Okonedo, Berwick Kaler, Darren Tighe, Sean McKenzie, Tom Watson, John Brobbery, Sara Stockbridge, Tony Curran and Barbara Rafferty.

Go Now is directed by Michael Winterbottom, runs 81 minutes, is made by BBC, PolyGram and Revolution, is released by Gramercy, is written by Jimmy McGovern and Paul Henry Powell, is shot by Daf Hobson, is produced by David M Thompson (executive producer) and Andrew Eaton, is scored by Alastair Gavin, and is designed by Hayden Pearce (Production Design) and Frazer Pearce (Art Direction).
