Easy Come, Easy Go * (1967, Elvis Presley, Dodie Marshall, Pat Priest) – Classic Movie Review 9302

Elvis Presley dives to the bottom of the barrel as a singing US Navy deep sea diver frogman called Ted Jackson, who thinks he has become incredibly rich when, joined by go-go dancer Jo Symington (Dodie Marshall), he finds sunken treasure in a Spanish wreck.

Director John Rich’s 1967 musical Easy Come, Easy Go is about as worthless as the gold Elvis uncovers.

As usual, Elvis’s character has a second career as a nightclub singer, so he can sing some songs.

Eight poor songs (‘Yoga Is as Yoga Does’, ‘The Love Machine’, ‘You Gotta Stop’, ‘Sing You Children’, ‘I’ll Take Love’, ‘She’s a Machine’, ‘Leave My Woman Alone’, ‘Easy Come, Easy Go’) complement a weak script. Presley seems tired and bored – and who can blame him? But stalwart performers Pat Harrington Jr, Skip Ward, Frank McHugh, Elsa Lanchester (as Madame Neherina) and Diki Lerner liven things up a bit.

It also features Pat Priest, Sandy Kenyon, Ed Griffith, Read Morgan, Mickey Elley, Elaine Beckett, Shari Nims, Robert Isenberg, and Kay York.

The soundtrack was released on a 7in EP, selling fewer than 30,000 copies, Elvis’s worst selling record for RCA Victor.

Easy Come, Easy Go, is directed by John Rich, runs 95 minutes, is made by Wallis-Hazen, is released by Paramount, is written by Allan Weiss and Anthony Lawrence, is shot in Technicolor by William Margulies, is produced by Hal B Wallis and is scored by Joseph J Lilley.
