D-Tox * (2002, Sylvester Stallone, Charles S Dutton, Polly Walker, Kris Kristofferson) – Classic Movie Review 11,172

Director Jim Gillespie’s 2002 crime film D-Tox stars Sylvester Stallone as FBI agent Jake Malloy on the trail of a serial killer targeting cops, who becomes alcoholic and attends a remote detox clinic rehabilitation camp for traumatised cops in snowy Wyoming – only for a murderer to begin picking off his fellow patients.

After a promising start, D-Tox settles down to being a grungy, unconvincing psychological thriller, with few excitements along the way to a predictable climax. Violent and boring, it is murky looking, badly acted and choppily made, though Stallone tries hard.

Tom Berenger is completely wasted, and a tremendous cast (Kris Kristofferson, Charles S Dutton, Dina Meyer, Christopher Fulford, Jeffrey Wright, Stephen Lang, Polly Walker, Robert Prosky, Robert Patrick) are not well used at all.

And it did Stallone’s then faltering career no good at all either.

The screen story and screenplay by Ron L Brinkerhoff are based on the novel Jitter Joint by Howard Swindle.

Also in the cast are Mif [Anthony J Mifsud], Angela Alvarado, Hrothgar Mathews, Alan C Peterson, Courtney B Vance, Sean Patrick Flanery, Tim Henry, Rance Howard, Frank Pellegrino, James Kidnie, Yves Cameron, Harrison Coe, Peter Flemming, Chris Nelson Norris, Bill Mackenzie, Ian Gschwind and David Lewis.
