Bury Me Dead *** (1947, Cathy O’Donnell, June Lockhart, Hugh Beaumont, Mark Daniels) – Classic Movie Review 11,907

Director Bernard Vorhaus’s 1947 American film noir Bury Me Dead is a preposterous, but very decently plotted and more than acceptably acted little mystery thriller, with a wealthy heroine called Barbara Carlin (June Lockhart), who understandably wants to know who the woman is who was buried at a funeral in her place and why her slimy husband (Mark Daniels) appears to be trying to bump her off.

Then there is the problem of her sister Rusty (Cathy O’Donnell), who, it turns out, is not her sister at all – or her friend either! Can her rather passive-seeming lawyer Michael Dunn (Hugh Beaumont) help?

The entertaining, flashback-driven events revealing the devious motives and suspects are scripted by Karen DeWolf and Dwight V Babcock, based on a radio drama by Irene Winston.

Also in the cast are Greg McClure, Virginia Farmer, Milton Parsons, Sonia Darrin, Cliff Clark, Charles Lane, Peggie Castle and Ned Glass.
